What States Is DraftKings Sportsbook Available In?
DraftKings online sportsbook is available in Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.
DraftKings Michigan Online Sportsbook
DraftKings Michigan officially launched on January 22, 2021.
Michigan legalized online sports betting, as well as online casino and poker, in 2019. It took about a year to finalize rules and regulations and to issue sports betting licenses to key operators before sports betting apps finally launched in late January 2021.
DraftKings Colorado Online Sportsbook
Colorado’s online sports betting industry went live on May 1, 2020. DraftKings Sportsbook Colorado debuted that day, along with three other mobile sports betting platforms.
The launch of an online sports betting industry puts Colorado in position as a potential major hub for legal US sports betting. DraftKings’ online sportsbook will likely establish itself as one of the state’s most popular mobile wagering platforms.
DraftKings Sportsbook Colorado operates under the sports betting license of Mardi Gras Casino. Located in Black Hawk, Colorado, Mardi Gras Casino is owned by Twin River Worldwide holdings.
The Colorado market could see as many as 20 different mobile sports betting platforms when the industry reaches maturity. With a May 1 launch, DraftKings positioned its online sportsbook at the front of the curve in the Centennial State.
Colorado bettors can wager on home teams like the Colorado Avalanche, Denver Broncos, Colorado Rockies and Denver Nuggets on DraftKings Sportsbook. College sports are open for betting with no restrictions on in-state teams and events. DraftKings Sportsbook is available as a mobile app, or on desktop. Players 21 and over can bet on the platform from anywhere in Colorado.
DraftKings Illinois Online Sportsbook
Illinois legalized online sports betting in 2019, and the first online sportsbook launched in June 2020. DraftKings joined the market on August 5, 2020, making it the second online sportsbook in the state following BetRivers.
DraftKings is partnered with Casino Queen in East St. Louis, Illinois, where it also runs a retail sportsbook.
When Illinois enacted mobile sports betting, the law created an in-person registration requirement. This meant sports bettors could create an account online but would need to confirm their registration in person. This placed DraftKings at a disadvantage due to its location downstate. Due to COVID-19, Governor Pritzker lifted this requirement, reinstated the requirement, and then lifted it once again. As of August 20, bettors no longer need to visit Casino Queen to complete registration. It is unclear if this is a permanent or temporary change.
Given the recent launch and the occasional in-person registration requirement in Illinois, it’s unclear how DraftKings will perform in the state. The operator’s track record certainly indicates that it could quickly become a Land of Lincoln sports betting leader.
DraftKings Indiana Online Sportsbook
Indiana passed legislation to legalize sports betting in May 2019. DraftKings Sportsbook was among the first wave of Indiana’s online sportsbooks that went live in October 2019.
The debut of Indiana’s mobile sports wagering platforms added the Hoosier State to the growing list of US states with a legal online sports betting market. DraftKings Sportsbook Indiana quickly broke out as the state’s most popular online sportsbook after the launch.
DraftKings Sportsbook Indiana operates under the sports betting license of Ameristar Casino Resort, owned by Penn National Gaming.
The addition of an Indiana platform bolsters DraftKings’ position as one of the leading online sportsbook operators in the legal US market. Indiana bettors can bet on major sports home teams like the Indianapolis Colts and Indiana Pacers at DraftKings Sportsbook.
College sports betting on teams like the Indiana Hoosiers, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and Purdue Boilermakers is available with no restrictions as well.
Like the other states in which it operates, DraftKings Sportsbook Indiana can be downloaded as a mobile app, or enjoyed from desktop from anywhere within Indiana borders.
DraftKings Iowa Online Sportsbook
DraftKings Sportsbook launched an online platform in Iowa in February 2020. The launch added the Hawkeye State to the list of US states in which DraftKings Sportsbook legally operates.
Iowa legalized sports betting in May 2019. Retail and mobile sportsbooks began to go live in the state in August 2019.
DraftKings Sportsbook operates in Iowa under the Wild Rose Casino sports betting license.
Wild Rose Casino utilizes its partnership with DraftKings for both retail and online sports betting.
Bettors can register for a DraftKings Sportsbook account by visiting one of the three Wild Rose Casino retail properties in Iowa. This in-person method of registration is in effect until January 1, 2021. After that date, new account registration becomes available through mobile app or desktop.
Once registered, bettors 21 and over can access DraftKings Sportsbook and place bets from anywhere within state borders. Iowa bettors can take advantage of the full range of domestic and international professional sports betting options on DraftKings Sportsbook.
Aside from a restriction on college sports prop betting, Iowa bettors can wager on college sports as well, including in-state teams like the Iowa Hawkeyes.
DraftKings New Hampshire Online Sportsbook
New Hampshire’s sports betting industry operates under unique regulations compared to other US states. Governor Chris Sununu signed a sports betting bill into law in July 2019, making retail and online sports betting legal in the Granite State.
DraftKings Sportsbook launched in December 2019 in New Hampshire. At the time, DraftKings Sportsbook New Hampshire went live as the lone online sports betting operator in the state.
New Hampshire doesn’t host any land-based casinos. Unlike other US states, DraftKings Sportsbook isn’t operating as a license partner to a retail casino. Instead, DraftKings Sportsbook was selected by the New Hampshire Lottery to launch the state’s first mobile sports betting platform.
The New Hampshire Lottery regulates the state’s sports betting industry. DraftKings’ online sports betting platform in New Hampshire offers many of the same betting options as in other US states.
Only betting on New Hampshire-based college sports teams and events is restricted by state law.
The DraftKings Sportsbook platform can be downloaded as a mobile app, or accessed through a desktop browser.
DraftKings New Jersey Online Sportsbook
DraftKings Sportsbook debuted in New Jersey in August 2018. The launch marked the beginning of an expansion into legal sports betting from DraftKings in the US. New Jersey lawmakers quickly went to work on sports betting legislation following the overturn of the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) in May 2018.
Both retail and online sports betting became legal in June 2018, and DraftKings Sportsbook went live as New Jersey’s first state-regulated online sportsbook.
DraftKings Sportsbook operates in New Jersey as a license partner to Resorts Digital Gaming. With DraftKings Sportsbook (along with FOX Bet) under its license, Resorts Digital Gaming enjoys status as one of New Jersey’s top-earning online sports betting operators. Following the August 2018 launch, DraftKings Sportsbook emerged as one of New Jersey’s most popular mobile sports betting platforms.
DraftKings’ New Jersey online sportsbook is powered by software from international sports betting technology partner Kambi. The software, interface, sign-up process, and bonus offers at DraftKings Sportsbook New Jersey are virtually identical to other states in which the platform operates.
DraftKings Sportsbook can be downloaded as a mobile app for both iOS and Android devices. The platform can also be accessed directly from a desktop browser.
The DraftKings Sportsbook New Jersey app also offers online casino games, from DraftKings Casino, on an integrated platform.
DraftKings Pennsylvania Online Sportsbook
Pennsylvania hosts one of the biggest online sports betting markets in the US. The Keystone State is second only to New Jersey in mobile sports betting revenue among US states.
DraftKings Sportsbook Pennsylvania plays a big role in those revenue totals. Since launching in November 2019, DraftKings Sportsbook quickly became established as the second-highest earning mobile sportsbook in the state.
The DraftKings online sportsbook platform operates in Pennsylvania under the Meadows Casino sports betting license. Pennsylvania bettors can enjoy the full slate of DraftKings Sportsbook’s domestic, international, and niche sports offerings.
Pennsylvania’s rich sports history makes DraftKings Sportsbook a naturally popular product in the state. Bettors can wager on home teams like the Philadelphia Eagles, Pittsburgh Steelers, Philadelphia 76ers, and a host of other Pennsylvania-based major teams. College sports are open for betting with no restrictions. Pennsylvania players can bet on the Villanova Wildcats, Penn State Nittany Lions, and other in-state programs and events.
Bettors age 21 and over can access DraftKings Sportsbook from anywhere in the state. DraftKings’ online sportsbook, casino, and daily fantasy sports platforms can all be enjoyed from a single integrated platform in Pennsylvania.
DraftKings Tennessee Online Sportsbook
DraftKings was one of the first few online sportsbooks to launch in Tennessee, and will most likely be a leader in sports betting revenue during its first year in the state.
Tennessee legalized online sports betting in April 209 and the first sportsbook apps launched on November 1, 2020. Unlike in other states, DraftKings has no retail casino partner in the state. Because Tennessee has no retail casinos, it is unique in allowing online-only sportsbook licenses.
In Tennessee, DraftKings offers its mobile app for both Apple iOS users and Android users as well as on mobile and desktop browsers.
DraftKings Virginia Online Sportsbook
Within days of its Michigan launch, DraftKings debuted in Virginia. DraftKings launched on January 24, 2021, as the second legal sportsbook app in Virginia.
DraftKings launched its online sports betting site just in time for Virginia bettors to place Super Bowl bets. Virginia has no retail casinos and there won’t be any until 2022 at the earliest. This means that no legal sportsbook is required to partner with a local casino in Virginia.
DraftKings West Virginia Online Sportsbook
Like many of the US states in which it operates, DraftKings Sportsbook stands at the front of the class in West Virginia’s mobile sports betting market.
Lawmakers in the Mountaineer State legalized retail and online sports betting in March 2018. The overturn of PASPA two months later set the stage for West Virginia to officially launch legal sports betting. Mobile sports betting debuted in the state in August 2019, with DraftKings Sportsbook as the first to launch.
DraftKings Sportsbook leads the pack as the top revenue-earning mobile sportsbook in the state.
DraftKings Sportsbook operates in West Virginia under the sports betting license of Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races.
Players 21 and over can download and place bets on the DraftKings Sportsbook mobile app from anywhere within state borders. The platform is available as a mobile app for both iOS and Android devices, and can also be accessed directly from desktop.
West Virginia bettors enjoy unrestricted access to betting markets that include all major US professional sports, as well as international leagues. State law permits college sports betting with no restrictions. Wagering on in-state teams like the West Virginia Mountaineers is legal.

Common Geolocation Issues With DraftKings Sportsbook
DraftKings Sportsbook utilizes geolocation technology to determine a user’s location. Bettors must be located within the borders of a state in which DraftKings Sportsbook legally operates at the time of a wager.
The geolocation technology can sometimes block a player from betting if the player is located near state borders. Playing on a mobile device with location services, or enabling GPS on a device, can help with geolocation issues.
What You’ll Probably Like About DraftKings Sportsbook
DraftKings Sportsbook offers an extensive selection of sports.
The menu of betting options at DraftKings Sportsbook includes all major US leagues, along with many international sports betting options. The NFL, NCAA, NHL, NBA, MLB, UFC, NASCAR, and a host of other domestic leagues and events are at bettors’ disposal at DraftKings Sportsbook.
International leagues, like English Premier League soccer, expand the betting menu even further. The international betting options aren’t just limited to major soccer leagues, however.
Cricket, rugby, table tennis, and international motorsports are just a few of the international sports on the board at DraftKings Sportsbook.
The user-friendly interface makes wagering easy for bettors of all experience levels.
Finding a bet on DraftKings Sportsbook is about as easy as it gets among legal US online sportsbooks.
A banner at the top of the main lobby displays leagues and events with upcoming betting opportunities. Clicking on one of those links opens up a menu of all available bets coming up in the immediate future for that league.
Clicking on the odds for a particular bet brings up a menu at the right of the screen, in which bettors can enter a potential bet amount and see the payout. Newcomers to sports betting won’t find an easier interface to work with.
Up to $1,000 in sign-up bonuses available.
DraftKings Sportsbook offers one of the biggest bonus packages of any online sportsbook. Up to $1000 can be unlocked with a 20% deposit match bonus offer on the first deposit.
Why You Might Choose A Different Online Sportsbook
Only a 20% deposit match bonus.
While the potential $1,000 in sign-up bonuses is enticing, the deposit match portion of that total is less generous than at some other online sportsbooks. The bonus requires 25x playthrough to receive the full bonus amount. This means that for every $25 wagered, the bettor receives a $1 bonus.
Lower odds compared to some other sportsbooks.
Different sportsbooks offer varying odds, making some bets more lucrative at certain sportsbooks.
DraftKings Sportsbook tends to offer less enticing odds on some underdog lines versus other sportsbooks. This trend is balanced out by better odds when betting on the favorite, however.
DraftKings Sportsbook: License Information
Below is a list of states where DraftKings Sportsbook operates, along with the license partner in each state.
Colorado | Twin River Worldwide Holdings |
Indiana | Ameristar Casino (Penn National Gaming) |
Iowa | Wild Rose Casino |
Illinois | Casino Queen |
New Hampshire | Independent license |
New Jersey | Resorts Digital Gaming |
Pennsylvania | Meadows Casino (Penn National Gaming) |
West Virginia | Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races (Penn National Gaming) |

Individual US states determine their own regulations for legal online sports betting. In New Jersey, for example, the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement approves all licenses for online sports betting operators.
Sports betting licenses are only awarded to New Jersey-based retail casinos. Those casinos can then partner with other companies, including those outside of New Jersey.
DraftKings Sportsbook New Jersey operates under the master sports betting license of Resorts Digital Gaming. Resorts Digital Gaming is the parent company to Resorts Casino Hotel, a retail property in Atlantic City.
Is DraftKings Sportsbook Right For You?
DraftKings Sportsbook offers a user-friendly interface, a wide selection of sports, and a variety of in-game and other betting options. The platform should appeal to bettors of all experience levels. The easy-to-navigate betting menu is particularly convenient for newcomers to sports betting.
Experienced high-volume and high-stakes bettors will probably be looking to shop around for better lines for some games. The odds on underdog teams, in particular, can be less favorable at DraftKings Sportsbook when compared to other online sportsbooks.

DraftKings Sportsbook features
DraftKings Sportsbook features both an app and browser-based site. You can use it on iPhones, iPads, Android devices, PCs, and Macs.
DraftKings Sportsbook is, above all else, an attempt to streamline sports betting for the mobile space. As a result, there are several features on the app that are alterations from traditional wagering on sporting events.
Betting carousel
The first major change is the betting carousel. With so many bets available on DraftKings, the company wanted to make it simpler to find events that the player wants to bet.
The betting carousel is a customized suggestion palette for each DraftKings account. The app either uses a player’s specified preferences or their betting history in daily fantasy sports to generate a series of options most likely to suit the bettor.
Simplified language
One of the most daunting things about a new activity is learning the lingo. Almost every activity has its own terms and language, and sports betting is no exception.
However, with sports betting becoming legal in areas where it has mostly been absent, there are many new players entering the game. Therefore, the DraftKings app simplified various bets and information to more functional and contextual labels.
So, for instance, the traditional moneyline bet still exists on the DraftKings app. However, its label is “who will win,” rather than the more obscure or confusing term.
Variety and flexibility
Almost any type of bet is available on DraftKings Sportsbook. All the typical point spreads, moneylines, totals, and futures bets are there, along with rarer options like alternate lines, in-play bets, and proposition bets.
Every bet on the site features a live ticket system, which allows players to cash out of their bets at almost any time during the contest.
So, if a game is going the bettor’s way, they might be able to collect some or most of the profit on their wager early. The feature would allow players to avoid the chance of some sort of last-second loss.
Even parlay bettors can take advantage of the system. Of course, the payout is less than if the player wins outright, but the amount of the payout automatically adjusts according to the status of the contest(s).
Players can also wager in amounts lower than in a traditional sportsbook. DraftKings will accept wagers as low as $0.10.
Unified branding
One part of the sportsbook that won’t be different is its appearance. DraftKings retained both its black-and-green color scheme and logo throughout the app.
So, players will see the familiar “crowned-D” when they log in for the first time. The app’s design team wanted to reduce friction and difficulty as much as possible in its presentation, even in terms of aesthetics.

As far as banking goes, you are able to both withdraw and deposit funds onto your mobile DraftKings account at any of the retail locations.
The same rules apply for most states where DraftKings is legal; however, there are some exceptions. In New Jersey, New Hampshire, Virginia, and Illinois, you can’t wager on any in-state colleges.
Iowa and Tennessee also have restrictions on college wagering. While wagers on teams are permitted, neither state allows individual proposition bets on college athletes.
Creating an account at DraftKings Sportsbook
Creating an account on DraftKings Sportsbook is an easy process. To join, new players will be required to provide some information:
- Name
- Date of birth
- Address
- Phone number
- SocialSecurity number
Along with this, customers will need to create a username and password for the online sportsbook. Also, they will have to answer a few securityquestions.
Gamblers will need to confirm that they’re at least 21 years or older, as well as agree to the terms of use and privacy policy.
Registration eligibility at DraftKings Sportsbook
Generally speaking, there is only one standing rule about registering for a DraftKings account. Only players who are 21 or older are able to do so.
The only exceptions are determined by state law. For instance, some New Jersey individuals who have jobs based around sporting events are prohibited from joining DraftKings. So, players, coaches, trainers, and referees are not permitted to gamble on the online sportsbook.
Similarly, there are specific casinoemployees who are not allowed to use DraftKings Sportsbook. If you believe that you may have a disqualifying job, check with your employer, DraftKings, or your state’s gaming authority to get clarification.
For Illinois players
Illinois has also decided to enact in-person registration for online sports betting. However, this requirement is currently waived until further notice. To save yourself from the significant extra step of traveling to the live DraftKings Sportsbook in East St. Louis, we recommend you create your account today.
Can you link your DraftKings Sportsbook and DFS accounts?
Yes, you can. If you already have an account on the fantasy sports site, DraftKings makes it easy to link your accounts. Once you’ve downloaded the app, there is an option under “account” to link your two accounts.
The sportsbook platform is right on the website, and easy to access.
The DFS app/site and Sportsbook app/site share a common wallet, to a certain extent. You can deposit at DraftKings DFS, and then move money to Sportsbook, once you have played through it once (i.e. if you deposit $100, you have to play in $100 worth of contests in order to move it to Sportsbook). So it’s not quite seamless.
Using the DraftKings Sportsbook app
The experience of using the app to bet on sports is intuitive, whether you are an experienced sports bettor or not. Draftkings Sportsbook offers an iOS app for iPhones and iPads as well as an Android app.
The app is quick and responsive, and you can easily place any bet you want with a few touches.
The app, in its early days, has suffered a bit on the geolocation side, as it tries to determine if you are inside New Jersey. If you’re on a device that is using cellular data only, geolocation has been slow or impossible, depending on timing. Being connected to WiFi definitely speeds up the process.
The sportsbook makes its money through the commission it charges on bets. This commission is also known as the vigorish, or “vig,” for short. DraftKings’ odds have its sportsbook charging more vig than bookmakers traditionally do at Nevada or European sportsbooks, so it’s been a source of consternation for experienced bettors.
DraftKings Sportsbook app for Android
If you want to download the app for an Android device like Samsung Galaxy, you do it directly through the DraftKings site. It is not in the Google Play store.
Once you download and install it, however, it works just like any other Android app. You have to turn on location services in order to use the app in your state of choice.
DraftKings Sportsbook app for iPhone and iPad
DraftKings is available — find the link here — for iOS devices like iPhones and iPads.
The app has been well-reviewed by users since its inception.
Again, you must allow your phone to detect your location while using the DraftKings Sportsbook app, otherwise, you won’t be able to access DraftKings, no matter which state you’re in.
While you must be 17 to download the app, you have to be 21 to deposit and bet.
Depositing and withdrawing at DraftKings
DraftKings also provides flexibility for moving money around the online sportsbook. Right now, there are a few options for depositing:
- Credit card

Residents in some states may also be able to deposit into their accounts through the casino cage at DraftKings’ in-state partner. For instance, New Jersey residents can visit the cashier at Resorts Atlantic City to fund their accounts.

What kinds of bets can you make at DraftKings?
Even with DraftKings’ concerted effort to make sports betting more accessible, the prospect of placing real-money wagers on sports contests can be quite intimidating to new players. So, here are brief explanations of each type of betting.
Point spread
Betting on a point spread is the most common type of bet sports bettors make. A sportsbook will simply determine that one team will defeat another by a specific number of points (or runs or goals or whatever).
Bettors wager that either the team picked to win will exceed that number, or that the team picked to lose will do so by less than that number. If the underdog loses by less than the number or wins outright, the team is said to have “covered” the spread.
Moneyline (or ‘Who Will Win’)
As its DraftKings title implies, the bettor is simply betting on the eventual winner of the contest. The margin of victory is irrelevant to the bet.
Instead, the sportsbook establishes different payouts based upon its perception of which team will win. The favored team will have a negative three digit number next to it, and the underdog will (usually) have a positive number next to it.
This type of bet is easier to understand if we use an example. So, let’s say the Seattle Seahawks are playing the Cleveland Browns this Sunday.
The given moneylines for that game look something like this:
SEA: – 165
CLE: +145
So… if you wanted to bet on the Seahawks, you’d have to put up $165 to receive a $100 payout. By contrast, if you bet on the Browns, you would receive $145 for every $100 you bet.
Totals
Another common type of sports bet is totals bets. These bets are often referred to as the “over/under,” due to the nature of the bet.
The sportsbook will declare how many points will be scored in a given contest by both teams. Gamblers will then wager on whether they believe that number to be too low or too high.
If they bet that the number is too high, they are said to have bet the “under.” Conversely, if the number seems too low, bettors will take the “over.”
Futures
A futures bet is a wager that some sort of longer term event will occur. Common futures bets include wagers that a given team will win its league championship, or that a particular athlete will achieve a specified performance goal.
Proposition
Proposition betting, or prop bets, are wagers on events ancillary to the given sporting contest. Prop bets tend to focus on micro-events, like whether a player will hit a home run in a game or not.
In-play bets
In-play betting is betting that occurs during the event itself. Players can often bet on the outcome of a particular quarter.
In fact, the DraftKings app breaks down in-game events to almost a granular level. Bets could be available on events as small as what kind of pitch will a pitcher throw next, or what kind of football play will occur on the next play.
The live ticket system mentioned above effectively makes all bets on DraftKings an in-play wager. You can convert your bet to a payout at any point during the contest.
By providing so many options, DraftKings allows its players the freedom to place any bet they wish. While some betting types are reasonably straightforward, others require more knowledge.
DraftKings gives its customers a sports betting guide that gets into the specifics for every sport available. There are even short videos featuring former NBA star Charles Barkley, where he provides the basics about certain bet types.
One of the more popular forms of betting on DraftKings is through live, in-play wagering. Players no longer have to put in bets before games begin, opening up a lot of possibilities with in-game bets.
DraftKings has multiple live betting markets for almost every single game, in every sport.
One betting option that separates DraftKings from others in the US market is the “Pools” category.
Players are eligible to join organized pools for a fixed rate. These can range from NFL pick ’em for a single week, or the entire season. There’s a college football pick ’em pool as well.
What sports can you bet on at DraftKings Sportsbook?
If it’s a sport that Americans watch with any amount of regularity, it’s probably going to be available at DraftKings:
- College football betting
- College basketball betting
- NHL betting
- MLB betting
- Golf betting
- Tennis betting
- Combat sports betting
- NASCAR (and other motorsports) betting
- Soccer betting
What bets will DraftKings not take?
Restricted bets will depend upon the state in question. Each state has its own rules, so these are the types of bets that you will not find on DraftKings:
- Betting on high school sporting events is not permitted in any state.
- Betting across state lines is not allowed and violates state and federal law.
- New Jersey
- You may not bet upon collegiate events that occur within the borders of New Jersey
- There can be no betting upon New Jersey colleges, most notably Princeton and Rutgers
- Pennsylvania
- No betting on non-sports events, like the Oscars or elections, is allowed.
- Indiana
- No wagering on esports
- Live betting is limited and data sources are subject to gaming board review

- New Hampshire
- No betting on in-state collegiate events
- Colorado
- Esports betting is not permitted
- Tennessee

Obviously, as other states bring online wagering to its public, there will be some variations. However, rules like the prohibition on high school events or the geolocation requirement.
