- Jul 20, 2020 Sam Burns. Burns has played pretty well lately and had last week off from the Memorial Tournament. Burns played great at last year’s 3M Open with two rounds of 66 and a 64 on the final Sunday. He is a longshot bet to win this week but if you like making longshot pickshe does make a decent choice.

Jul 23, 2020 2020 3M Open odds, golf picks, predictions, field grade, best bets at TPC Twin Cities After a fortnight in Ohio, the PGA Tour heads to Minnesota with the PGA Championship around the corner. Jul 20, 2020 Matthew Wolff, who won last year's 3M Open in just his third pro start on the Tour, will be among a strong contingent of players ranked in the 2020 FedEx Cup standings teeing off.
This week’s 3M Open will have a bit of a weaker golf field with last week’s Memorial being a big tournament for players and the next two weeks being the WGC FedEx St. Jude and then the PGA Championship before gearing up for the end of the PGA Tour season with the FedEx Cup playoffs. For golf bettors looking to make picks for the 3M Open, this week can be a bit of a challenge picking who will win and who to bet on.
Although there will be a few big name golfers in the field like Brooks Koepka and Dustin Johnson, many will take a pass this week to rest up and focus on the next few weeks of tournaments.
Should you focus your betting strategy on betting on the favorites this week? Last year had a few big names in the field and they did “Okay” and with the next few weeks of big tournaments there are times where a big name favorite simply uses the course and tournament as a practice round to work some things out in his game. That doesn’t mean you need to completely fade the favorites either since some are still trying to collect some more FedEx Cup points to be in a better position when the NORTHERN TRUST starts up.
Last year was the first year for the 3M Open and it was a bit of a birdie fest with three guys finishing with a score of -20 or less and the cut line being at -3. Expect similar scores this week especially from guys that played last year and have some history at the course.
Favorites To Bet On For The 3M Open

Brooks Koepka
Here’s a perfect example of a player that is really low in the FedEx Cup standings that would be primed to do well this week to collect the points that he needs to move upwards. In a tournament with a weak field and plenty of scoring opportunities this may be a great week for Koepka to flex those big arms and power his way to a tournament win!
Dustin Johnson
+16! Or more importantly – 80 in round 1 and 80 in round 2! Johnson looked lost at the Memorial Tournament last week but I would rather chalk that up to a bad week and see him at lower odds this week for the 3M Open and a weaker field. If he misses the cut this week then alarm bells can start going off but I may be inclined to put a couple of bucks on him and see if he bounces back and destroys the field. Originally I would have faded Johnson this week and assumed that he was taking this as a practice round but after his performance at the Memorial…He may want to re-establish his mark on the PGA Tour.
3M Open Sleeper Picks
Mackenzie Hughes
Played well at the Memorial which probably will make his betting odds for the 3M Open drop a bit but he still will be long odds to win. In a weaker field tournament like this, there are better chances of a lesser known golfers to come in and win so Hughes does become a bit more interesting if you buy into that theory.
Sam Burns
Burns has played pretty well lately and had last week off from the Memorial Tournament. Burns played great at last year’s 3M Open with two rounds of 66 and a 64 on the final Sunday. He is a longshot bet to win this week but if you like making longshot picks…he does make a decent choice.
Other 3M Open Picks To Consider
Paul Casey – I wasn’t high on Casey last week at the Memorial because he hadn’t played much since the return of golf and him missing the cut proved it. In his defense he would have made the cut if he hadn’t shot an 8 on the par three 12th hole on Friday. No worries, he gets to shake that off and play in a weak field this week and should be looked at possibly as a favorite but with a few other big names playing, his odds will be more enticing if you want to bet on him to win the 3M Open outright.
Tommy Fleetwood – Will probably be more of a favorite when it comes to betting odds this week but be warned, this is his first start in a very long time and he could be pretty rusty coming into the 3M Open. He is still a great golfer and in such a weak field he can’t be ignored. I would look to see who he is matched up against in some two-ball or three-ball matchups and see if his odds make him a better choice to bet on then.

The 2020 3M Open will have a lot to live up to when it tees off Thursday at TPC Twin Cities. In last year's inaugural event, 20-year-old Matthew Wolff stunned the golf world with a victory in his first month as a pro, sinking an eagle putt from the fringe on the last hole to beat fellow phenom Collin Morikawa and an up-and-coming Bryson DeChambeau by a stroke. Wolff is back this year and listed at 28-1 in the latest 2020 3M Open odds from William Hill.

World No. 4 Dustin Johnson is the overall favorite at 11-1, while Brooks Koepka is the co-second favorite at 14-1 along with Tony Finau. Who can you trust in your 2020 3M Open Fantasy golf rankings? Johnson and Koepka could draw plenty of interest, but a competitive field could yield plenty of Fantasy golf sleepers. Before finalizing any 2020 3M Open Fantasy golf picks, check out the latest Fantasy golf rankings from data scientist Rick Gehman.
With his expansive database of golf statistics, course data and betting odds, Gehman creates advanced models and back-tests them constantly. These models have produced 11 outright winners in the past year, including 30-1 Webb Simpson at the 2020 RBC Heritage, 50-1 Chez Reavie at last year's Travelers and 40-1 Patrick Reed at the Northern Trust among nine PGA Tour winners, plus a $10,000 DraftKings win at The Masters.
At the Rocket Mortgage Classic this month, Gehman put Bryson DeChambeau atop his Fantasy rankings. The result: DeChambeau fired a 23-under, winning by three strokes. Then at the Workday Charity Open, Gehman was higher than most on Collin Morikawa, and he won in a dramatic playoff over Justin Thomas. Gehman had pegged Thomas at No. 2. Before last week's Memorial Tournament, Gehman told SportsLine readers that Jon Rahm 'could be on the brink of breaking out.' Rahm cruised to a three-shot win and took over the world's No. 1 ranking.
At this year's WGC-Mexico Championship, four of Gehman's top six golfers finished tied for sixth or better. Anybody who has followed his golf picks has seen huge returns.
Now, Gehman, co-host of 'The First Cut' podcast on CBS Sports, has revealed his top 30 players for the 3M Open 2020 over at SportsLine so you can crush your Fantasy golf picks.

Finau has been on Gehman's radar since the restart, and he likes what he has seen. The 30-year-old struggled over the weekend at the Memorial Tournament after sharing the 36-hole lead, but Gehman expects him to bounce back. 'His raw power will come in handy at TPC Twin Cities,' Gehman told SportsLine. The course sets up well for big hitters, and Finau averages just shy of 306 yards per drive and is 10th in strokes gained tee-to-green.
Johnson won at the Travelers and comes in as the Vegas favorite, but Gehman is fading him, leaving him out of his top four. Johnson followed his victory last month with a disastrous performance at the Memorial, going 16 over par in missing the cut. 'I have no idea what to make of Johnson right now,' Gehman said. The 36-year-old missed the cut at the Charles Schwab Challenge in his first event after the layoff, then shot eight straight rounds in the 60s before his dismal showing at Muirfield Village.

This vet plays mainly in Europe, winning often, and has never faced a weaker PGA Tour field. Gehman is only sharing who it is, and his top 30 golfers in order, right here.
